UW women jump three spots in latest USTFCCCA TFRI; Western Washington women enter top 25...

Thanks to some big marks from the pole vault and distance groups, the University of Washington women jumped up three spots in the latest USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index, released Tuesday.

The Husky women's team were led by Hana Moll (Paul Merca photo), who became the second woman in NCAA history to clear 16 feet when she jumped 16-0.25 (4.88m) at last Saturday's UW Invitational/Mile City meet.

Twin sister Amanda and freshman Veronica Vacca both cleared 14-6.5 (4.43m), which is tied for tenth in the NCAA D1 descending order list.

On the track, Chloe Foerster's 4:25.79 in the mile is currently number 5 on the NCAA's descending order list.

Chloe Thomas's 8:51.27, and Sara Borton's 14-0.5 (4.28m) in the 3000m and pole vault puts them at number 16 and 19 in their events, respectively.

The nation's top five women's teams are, in order: Illinois, Georgia, South Carolina, BYU and Clemson.

Other Big Ten teams in the national top 25 include number 6 Oregon, number 14 Nebraska, number 18 Minnesota, and number 19 Penn State.

The Washington men dropped one spot to number 17, but had two top twenty performances at Mile City from Reuben Reina Jr (3:52.37, number 2) and from Tyler Bilyard (3:54.43, number 12).

The top five men's teams are in order: Kansas State, Tennessee, Oregon, Penn State and Georgia.

Illinois at 13, Iowa at 23 and Nebraska at 24 are the only Big Ten teams in the national top 25.


In Division II
, Central Washington dropped three spots to number 15, while Western Washington  entered the top 25 for the first time this season, checking in at number 23.

The Vikings' 4 x 400 relay team, anchored by Bec Bennett (left/photo courtesy WWU Athletics). set a school record, running 3:44.63, the number 3 time in the country.

They also got top 20 marks at the UW Invitational from Emmy Kroontje (2:10.09, number 10) in the 800 and 4:52.52 in the mile (number 18); and, Kathryn Chapin (47-1.75/14.37m, number 14) in the shot put.

The top five Division II women's teams are in order: Pittsburg State, Grand Valley State, West Texas A&M, Minnesota State, and Colorado School of Mines.

Simon Fraser at number 7 is the only other GNAC school in the national top 25.

No men's team from the GNAC are in the national top 25 this week.

The nation's top five men's D2 squads are, in order: Wingate, Pittsburg State, Grand Valley State, Adams State, and Minnesota State.
