Washington men's DMR performance boosts Dawgs up to number 13 in USTFCCCA D1 index...
NEW ORLEANS--After winning the distance medley relay at the Arkansas Qualifier last Friday, the University of Washington men's team jumped up four positions to number 13 in the latest USTFCCCA Division I indoor track and field rating index released Tuesday.
The Huskies, with Thomas Diamond (Shawn Price/Arkansas Athletics photo), Alex Rhodes, Tyler Bilyard, and Reuben Reina, Jr., combined to run 9:17.03, a mark which led the nation for all of two hours, before Villanova topped it at the Philadelphia Metro meet later in the day.
Five other teams surpassed the Huskies' time within a 48-hour span, with most of the action coming at Saturday's Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, and the Saucony Battle for Boston on Sunday.
The DMR team plus freshmen Owen Powell and Josiah Tostenson were the only Huskies in action last weekend.
The number 13 ranking is the highest the Huskies have attained this season.
The nation's top five men's D1 teams are in order: Arkansas, Oregon, Tennessee, Kansas State, and Texas A&M.
Other B1G Ten teams in the national top 25 include number 6 Penn State, number 18 Illinois, number 19 Iowa, and number 23 USC.
On the women's side, Washington dropped two spots to number 13, with Mia Cochran recording the only top 20 mark of the week in the mile, where she ran 4:29.10 at the Saucony Battle for Boston. Her time is number 19 on the NCAA D1 descending order list.
The nation's top five women's teams are in order: Illinois, Georgia, BYU, Arkansas & South Carolina.
Other B1G Ten teams in the women's top 25 include number 6 USC, number 7 Oregon, number 11 Nebraska, number 21 Minnesota, and number 25 Penn State.
DIVISION II UPDATE...
GNAC women's team champion Western Washington moved up one spot to number 18, while runner-up Central Washington dropped four positions to number 19 in the latest D2 ranking index.
Western's top mark came in the 4 x 400 relay, where the team of Casie Kleine, Jayda Darroch, Kennedy Cook (Loren Orr/GNAC photo) and Bec Bennett ran a school record 3:42.98 to take the victory and the nation's number 5 time.
The 4x4 was the only national top-20 mark recorded by the Vikings last week.
The Wildcats recorded top 20 marks from defending NCAA D2 triple jump champion Emy Ntekpere (42-0.5/12.81m, #3): Elise Hopper in the 200m (24.00, #12); the 4 x 400 relay team of Carley Huber, Donna Marie Harris, Ashlyn Nielsen, and Ellie DeGroot (3:45.54, #18); Nielsen in the 200 (24.19, #19); and Hopper in the 400 (54.89, #19).
The women's top five teams are in order: Pittsburg State, Grand Valley State, West Texas A&M, Adams State, and Minnesota State.
Simon Fraser is the only other GNAC school in the national top 25, sitting at number 7.
No GNAC schools are listed in the men's national top 25.
The nation's top five men's teams in Division II are in order: Grand Valley State, Wingate, Pittsburg State, Adams State, and Minnesota State.
