Twelve hour Stanford Invitational extravaganza lives up to the hype...
STANFORD, California-- They said that it was going to be a twelve hour extravaganza. Indeed, the first day of the two-day Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the sun-drenched campus of Stanford University lived up to its billing. Friday's portion of the meet was topped off by a collegiate record by Brigham Young University freshman Jane Hedengren (Paul Merca photo for Track & Field News) , who ran a 66 second last 400 to emerge victorious, stopping the clock in 30:46.80 in a dual of the ages to hold off New Mexico's Pamela Kosgei, who ran 30:49.99. The old collegiate record was set by Florida's Parker Valby two years ago at the Bryan Clay Invitational, when she ran 30:50.43. Behind the dynamic duo, Washington's Chloe Thomas was seventh in a school record 32:19.59, while Gonzaga's Logan Hofstee was ninth in 32:21.15.
