Moll twins finish second and third at Maurie Plant meet in Melbourne...

MELBOURNE, Australia--On a cool evening at the Lakeside Stadium, Washington's Hana (Paul Merca file photo) and Amanda Moll finished second and third in the pole vault at the Maurie Plant Meet Melbourne, the opening meet of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series.

Amanda, competing in her second meet of the 2026 season, cleared a best of 14-3.5 (4.36m) on her second attempt, after starting with two straight first attempt makes at 13-3.75 (4.06m) and 13-9.75 (4.21m).

Hana, fresh off winning her second NCAA indoor title two weeks earlier, opened with a second attempt make at 14-7.5 (4.46m), before clearing the next bar of 14-11.5 (4.56m) on her second.

As the temperature dropped and the wind swirled slightly, Hana bowed out with three misses at 15-3.5 (4.66m), as reigning Olympic champion Nina Kennedy, who was ahead of Hana on fewer misses beforehand, took the victory with a first attempt make at that height.

Kennedy went on to clear the next bar of 15-5.75 (4.72m) to the delight of the partisan home crowd, before calling it a night as the rain began.

In other events, Washington alum Brian Fay finished third in the men's 3000, running 7:42.85, while fellow alum Ed Trippas was 15th in 8:13.36.

Jackson HS alum Grant Grosvenor was fifth in the men's 800, running a personal best 1:46.45.

In her 2026 season debut, Washington alum and 2025 NCAA champion Sophie O'Sullivan finished tenth in the women's 1500, running 4:19.82.
