World Indoors begins early Friday morning in Toruń, Poland...
The World Athletics Indoor Championships get underway in Torun, Poland (Kujawy Pomorze region) Friday with eight athletes with state of Washington ties competing at Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń.
Washington State's Rosemary Longisa (Paul Merca photo) of Kenya, who finished second in the mile at the NCAA championships in Fayetteville, along with Laura Pellicoro (Italy) and Valery Tobias (USA) of the Brooks Beasts are the first to go, as they run in the first round of the women's 800 at 4:38 am Pacific time.
Less than an hour later, John Rivera of Puerto Rico, who trains in Seattle as part of the Brooks Beasts, runs in his first round heat of the men's 800 to conclude the Friday afternoon session in Torun.
In the cases of Longisa, Pellicoro, Tobias, and Rivera, advancing out of Friday's first round will earn them a spot in Saturday's 800m semifinals at 4:22 am (women) and 5:00 am (men) Pacific time.
Washington alums Aaron Ahl (Canada), Nathan Green, and Luke Houser (both USA) all run in the semifinals of the men's 1500 meters Friday at 10:54 am Pacific time.
Houser was the unexpected bronze medalist at last year's world championships in Nanjing, and is out to prove that making the podium last year wasn't a fluke.
Josh Kerr (Paul Merca photo) of Great Britain and the Brooks Beasts runs in the final of the men's 3000 Saturday at 11:22 am Pacific time.
The finals of the men's 1500 meters is Sunday morning at 10:38 am, while the finals of the men's and women's 800 are at 11:38 am and 11:53 am Pacific time.
Peacock ($) will live stream all three days of the world indoor championships.
