Lagat & Thurmond to compete in Morocco Sunday...
TANGIER, Morocco--Washington State University hall of famer Bernard Lagat (left, with Hicham El Guerrouj/photo courtesy Meeting International Tangier) and US Olympic teammate and University of Washington grad Aretha Thurmond are scheduled to compete in the Meeting International Tangier Sunday.
Lagat, who is one of the premier athletes promoted for the meet hosted by close friend and former rival Hicham El Guerrouj, is entered in the 1500 meter run, where he will face a field that includes Olympic teammate Andrew Wheating, and AJ Acosta of the University of Oregon; former Nebraska standout Peter Van der Westhuizen of South Africa; NCAA indoor mile champ from New Mexico Lee Emanuel of Great Britain; and Abdelaati Iguider of Morocco, the silver medalist in the 1500m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha in March.
Thurmond, who competed Friday at the Meeting Areva in Paris, will face Samsung Diamond League discus leader Yarelis Barrios of Cuba, along with American Gia Lewis, and Poland's Joana Wisniewska.
