WSU's Shawna Fermin seventh in opening round of 400m at World Juniors...

MONCTON, New Brunswick--Washington State University freshman Shawna Fermin (left/photo courtesy Washington State University), representing Trinidad & Tobago, finished seventh in her opening round heat of the 400 meters Tuesday morning at the IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships in the Canadian Atlantic city.

Fermin, running on the outside in lane 8, stopped the watch in 55.50.

According to Parker Morse of the IAAF web site, Fermin was caught by the field on the backstretch.

Fermin set her personal best of 54.41 last month at the national junior championships of Trinidad & Tobago in qualifying for the world junior championships.
