Nageotte, Winger & Allen set for IAAF Diamond League finals in Zürich & Brussels...

Pullman resident Katie Nageotte (left/photo by Paul Merca) is entered in the women’s pole vault finals of the season-long IAAF Diamond League Thursday at the Weltklasse Zürich meet in Zürich, Switzerland.

Nageotte earned one of the twelve spots in the finals by finishing third in the IAAF Diamond League standings, scoring 27 points over six Diamond League meets (Doha, Eugene, Oslo, Lausanne, Monaco & Birmingham).

Also competing Thursday is Vancouver native Kara Winger in the javelin.

Winger enters the Zürich meet finishing the regular Diamond League season in fourth place over three meets (Oslo, Lausanne, and London), scoring 13 points.

On Friday at the Ivo Van Damme Memorial meet in Brussels, former Renton resident Devon Allen will run the 110 hurdles.

Allen qualified for the Brussels Diamond League finals by finishing fourth over four meets with 23 points (Eugene, Paris, Lausanne, Monaco).

The IAAF Diamond League standings are available here.

Unlike previous years Diamond League finals, the points earned from the previous meets do not carry over into the finals. The winners of each of the 32 Diamond League events contested in both Zürich and Brussels (Ivo Van Damme Memorial on Friday, where 16 events will be run) will be crowned the Diamond League winners for this season, and collect the $50,000 winners prize.

With the 2019 IAAF world championships in Doha late in the season (September 28-October 6, 2019), the IAAF will only award Diamond League wild card entries to the 2019 champion, and not to the 2018 winner. The 2019 Diamond League finals occurs before next year’s world championships.

The start list for the Weltklasse Zürich meet is available here, while the start list for the Ivo Van Damme Memorial meet is available here.

NBCSN (channel 626 on Comcast Seattle) and the NBC Sports App will have live coverage of the Zürich meet, while Friday’s Ivo Van Damme meet will be carried on the Olympic Channel (channel 660 on Comcast Seattle) and the NBC Sports App.
