EUGENE EXPECTED TO GET 2020 US OLYMPIC TRIALS...

According to a report posted by The Oregonian’s Ken Goe, Eugene and the University of Oregon is expected to be announced as the host of the 2020 US Olympic Track & Field Trials by USA Track & Field.

The Trials would be the first major meet at the rebuilt Historic Hayward Field (above/artist rendering courtesy University of Oregon), which is slated to be finished by April 2020.

Historic Hayward Field was razed shortly after the NCAA track & field championships in June.

USA Track & Field and the US Olympic Committee originally awarded the Trials to Walnut, California and Mt. San Antonio College in late June 2017, where Hilmer Lodge Stadium, which is the site of the annual Mt. SAC Relays, was being remodeled with the intent of hosting big meets like the Olympic Trials.

However, a series of lawsuits slowed down the construction timetable and apparently gave USATF & the USOC cold feet, and yanked the Trials from Mt. SAC a few months ago, with Austin, Eugene, and Sacramento bidding for the rights to hold the Trials.

Goe’s post is available here.
