TUCSON, Arizona—Lynden native Hannah Rusnak (above/photo by Paul Merca) sits atop the leaderboard after the first day of competition of the heptathlon at the Pac-12 Multi-Events Championships at Drachman Stadium near the host University of Arizona campus.

Rusnak holds the lead with a first day score of 3422, 41 points up on Colorado’s Maja Wichart-Donzo’s 3381.

Christina Chenault of UCLA stands third at the break with 3241 points.

Rusnak began the first of four events by winning the 100 meter hurdles by setting a personal best in the 100 hurdles, running 13.68 for the overall victory and 1024 points.

She then cleared 5-5 (1.65m), just two centimeters short of her personal best to collect 795 points, then threw a small personal best in the shot put of 39-7.75 (12.08m) worth 666 points.

In the 200 meters, Rusnak had a lead coming off the curve, but was nipped at the line by Maja Wichart-Donzo of Colorado, as she clocked 24.45 to Rusnak’s 24.46, which was another personal best for the Husky sophomore.

Washington State’s Lindsey Schauble stands 11th at the break with 2985, while the Huskies’ Elinor Jones-Toutant is 14th with 2760 points.

In the decathlon, Oregon freshman holds the lead after five events with a score of 4113, while senior Ray Littles of Washington State stands third with 3879 points, and Washington’s Parker Kennedy is fifth with 3472 points.

Littles, primarily a 400 meter runner during his career, won the 100 meters in 10.70 to garner 929 points, while Kennedy ran 11.25 for 806 points.

In the long jump, Littles jumped 22-4.25 (6.81m), while Kennedy managed to jump 21-10 (6.65m).

Littles then threw the shot 38-11.5 (11.87m) to Kennedy’s 34-5.75 (10.51m).

The Cougar senior set a personal best in the high jump of 6-2.25 (1.89m), while Kennedy cleared 5-8.5 (1.74m).

In Little’s strongest event, the 400, he ran a personal best of 48.66, while Kennedy countered with a personal best of 49.44.
