GÖTZIS, Austria—University of Washington volunteer assistant coach Tim Duckworth (left/photo by Paul Merca) finished 17th in his season opening decathlon at the Hypo-Meeting Sunday.
Duckworth finished the two-day, ten event competition with a final score of 7981 points.
The University of Kentucky alum, who moved to Seattle to train under UW associate head coach Toby Stevenson, who coached him to the 2018 NCAA heptathlon and decathlon titles, started the day in sixth place.
He ran 14.44 in the 110 hurdles, then threw the discus 138-6 (42.22m).
Duckworth had a solid outing in the pole vault, clearing 16-0.75 (4.90m), then threw the javelin 168-2 (51.27m), before finishing the day with a time of 4:57.65 in the 1500m.
Canada’s Olympic bronze medalist Damian Warner won the Hypo-Meeting with a world leading score of 8711 points.

Vancouver native Kara Winger began her 2019 season with a victory in Bergen, Norway on May 22nd, as the three-time US Olympian threw 199-6 (60.80m) at the Trond Mohn Games.
Winger got the victory in the fourth round of throwing after Norway’s Sigrid Borge took the lead in round three with a toss of 198-4 (60.46m).
The Skyview/Vancouver grad will stay on the European continent until her next competition at the Hallesche Werfertage throws meet in Germany on June 1st.
