Vancouver native and eight-time US national champion Kara Winger (left/photo by Paul Merca) continues her early season tour of Europe Saturday at the Hallesche Werfertage throws meet in Halle, Germany on Saturday, as she prepares for the USATF outdoor championships in late July.
Based on marks submitted to the meet management, Winger is seeded second in the field behind Germany’s Christin Hussong, who was second at last year’s IAAF Continental Cup, and is the reigning European champion.
The three-time US Olympian is coming off a victory last week in Bergen, Norway, where she threw 199-6 (60.80m) in her season debut at the Trond Mohn Games.
Winger is currently ranked #8 in the world according to the most recent IAAF rankings, while Hussong is ranked number 2 in the world.

University of Washington junior Katie Rainsberger is among the entries listed for Saturday’s Music City Distance Carnival held on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Rainsberger, who did not get out of the NCAA West Regional meet last week in Sacramento, is entered in the second of three sections in the elite women’s 1500, where she faces two-time US Olympian Kim Conley, who is dropping down in distance, and nationally ranked steeplechaser Stephanie Garcia, who is also dropping down in distance.
