Katie Nageotte opens 2021 season with second place finish at ATL meet in Fayetteville...

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas--Former Pullman resident Katie Nageotte (photo by Paul Merca) finished second in the women's pole vault in the opening meet of the four-meet American Track League series Sunday at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Competing in her first meet of the 2021 season after her fall training was interrupted by a bout with COVID-19 in December, Nageotte cleared 14-9 (4.50m), the same height as winner Megan Clark, who is sponsored by Seattle-based Oiselle.

As both vaulters were tied when they went out at 15-1 (4.60m), they resorted to a jump-off to determine the winner, with Clark clearing 14-9 (4.50m) twice in the jump-off to get the win.

Nageotte's training partner and West Seattle HS grad Chloe Cunliffe finished fourth with a best jump of 14-1.25 (4.30m).

The highlight of the meet was Oregon native Ryan Crouser, who set a new world indoor record in the shot put, throwing 74-10.5 (22.82m) in the first round to eclipse Randy Barnes' old world and American record of 74-4.25 (22.66m). In fact, Crouser had an additional throw over the old world record in the third round.

2019 world champ Grant Holloway tied his own American record in the 60 hurdles, running 7.35 for the win. Gabby Thomas ran an impressive 35.92 to win the infrequently run 300 meter dash.

The University of Arkansas' release is available here, while the results are available here. The ATL series resumes next Sunday.
