Moon skies to world lead in Lieven; USATF indoor champs starts Thursday...

LIEVIN, France--
Former Pullman resident Katie Moon (photo courtesy World Athletics) won the pole vault at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais on Wednesday with an indoor season best of 15-10 (4.83m).

Moon was clean on her first four bars (14-7.25/4.45; 15-1/4.60m; 15-5.5/4.71; and 15-8.25/4.78), before needing a second attempt to clear 15-10 (4.83m).

That mark was good enough to take the 2023 world lead in the event by one centimeter, overtaking Arkansas alum Tina Ĺ utej of Slovenia for the best mark this season. Ĺ utej finished second with a best on the day of 15-8.25 (4.78m).

The highlight of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meet was a world record in the men's 3000 by Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma, who ran 7:23.81 to beat Spain's Mohamed Katir, who also ducked under the previous world record of 7:24.90 set by Daniel Komen of Kenya in 1998. Katir crossed the line in 7:24.68.
