Marks by five Huskies over the weekend help close the gap on #1 Arkansas in USTFCCCA rankings...

NEW ORLEANS--
The University of Washington men's team had some significant marks over the weekend, but remain the nation's number two team in the latest NCAA D1 Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index released by the USTFCCCA Tuesday.

With Sunday the final day of the qualifying period for the NCAA championships, the rating index, which is normally released to the public on Mondays, were delayed to account for the number of last chance meets around the country, including the meet in Boston, which the UW middle distance runners competed in.

Over the weekend, the Huskies got top ten performances from heptathlete Bruno Comin Pescador (Paul Merca photo), whose 6061 point total at the Ken Shannon Last Chance meet is the fifth best in Division I.

Other top ten marks by the UW men over the weekend included Cass Elliott's school record 1:46.76 in the 800 in Boston Sunday; and, Kieran Lumb, Luke Houser & Aidan Ryan's marks of 3:52.62, 3:52.87, and 3:53.65 in the mile in Boston.

Arkansas remains the nation's number one team ahead of the Huskies, with Florida, Texas Tech and Alabama rounding out the top five.

In last week's ranking index, Arkansas had a 171.30 to 133.50 advantage over the Huskies. In this week's ranking index, the gap was closed, with the Razorbacks holding a 181.09-164.23 edge.

Other Pac-12 schools in the men's national top 25 include number 11 USC, and number 14 Stanford.

The Husky women remain the nation's number seven team. The only top ten mark recorded over the weekend was from pole vaulter Nastassja Campbell, who cleared 14-9 (4.50m) to put her in a tie for third on the NCAA D1 descending order list.

The top five women's teams are in order: Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Oregon, and North Carolina State.

Other Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include number 16 Stanford, and number 18 USC.

The USTFCCCA track and field rating index is comprised of marks reported to the TFRRS site. This objective list is compiled solely of current qualifying marks from the 2023 indoor track & field season.

The final regular season rating index will be announced Monday March 6th, which reflects additions and deletions from the list of accepted entries for next weekend's NCAA indoor championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The list of accepted entries will be announced by the NCAA later on Tuesday February 28th.
