Washington women receive USTFCCCA D1 athletes of the week honors...

NEW ORLEANS--
For the second-straight year, the University of Washington's (photo courtesy UW Athletics) women's distance medley relay team's performance was rewarded with a National Athlete of the Week award from the USTFCCCA.

Friday night at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, the UW foursome of Chloe Foerster (1200-meter leg), Anna Terrell (400-meter leg), Marlena Preigh (800-meter leg), and Carley Thomas (1600-meter leg) won the Terrier DMR Challenge in 10:43.39, more than three seconds faster than the previous Collegiate Record, which the Huskies had set in 2023 in 10:46.62.

The Dawgs needed every second of their record just to get the victory, as Providence (10:44.07) and BYU (10:44.67) finished second and third, also under the old mark.

Foerster split 3:15.29 on the opening leg then Terrell ran 54.74. Preigh opened up a gap with her 2:03.34 split in the 800m leg, and then Thomas led the entire final leg, posting a split of 4:30.02.

That mark propelled the Huskies up to number six in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings index, the highest they've achieved all season.

USC's Johnny Brackins, Jr. of USC was the men's NCAA D1 athlete of the week after winning the USATF indoor title in the long jump in Albuquerque on Saturday, soaring 27-0 (8.23m) and qualifying for the world indoor championships in Glasgow in two weeks.

Both Brackins and members of the UW distance medley relay team are entered in Friday and Saturday's Ken Shannon Invitational at Dempsey Indoor.
