Husky men stay in USTFCCCA D1 national top 25, despite competing with a partial squad...

With only a partial squad competing at last Saturday's Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, the Washington men's team dropped three positions in the latest USTFCCCA Division I outdoor track & field rating index released by the coaches' association Tuesday.

The two new marks from the Dawgs that are in the top twenty after last Saturday's meet came from javelin thrower Chandler Ault (Paul Merca photo) and 400 hurdler Jonathan Birchman.

After this weekend's meets, Ault is ranked number 9 on the NCAA Division I descending order list at 243-3 (74.15m).

Birchman is ranked number 12 in the 400 hurdles with his UW best 50.49, though he ran faster at the Peyton/Shotwell Invitational as an unattached athlete (50.16) on March 23rd.

The nation's top five men's teams are, in order: Texas A&M, Florida, South Florida, LSU & Alabama.

Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include number 7 USC, number 13 Arizona State, number 15 California, and number 21 Arizona.


The nation's top five D1 women's teams are in order: Texas A&M, LSU, South Carolina, Nebraska & Texas Tech.

Pac-12 teams in the national top 25 include number 6 Oregon, number 14 USC, number 18 UCLA, and number 20 California.

Washington is one of a number of schools from the state sending a contingent to southern California to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California hosted by Azusa Pacific University starting on Thursday.
