CJ Allen faces toughest pre-Olympic test at Herculis Meeting in Monaco Friday...
The Wanda Diamond League tour heads to Monaco for Friday's Herculis Meeting International d'Athlétisme at Stade Louis II, the ninth stop on the circuit.
Washington State University alum CJ Allen (Paul Merca photo) faces his toughest test in the 400 hurdles, as the newly minted US Olympian takes on a field which includes defending Olympic champion and world record holder Karsten Warholm of Norway, 2022 world champion Alison dos Santos of Brazil, and American record holder & Olympic Trials champion Rai Benjamin.
Allen heads into the Monaco meet third in the Wanda Diamond League standings in the 400 hurdles with 22 points. dos Santos is the current leader in the event with 32 points.
Katie Moon, the former Pullman resident and reigning world and Olympic champion in the pole vault, goes in her specialty against a field which includes last year's co-world champion Nina Kennedy from Australia, and 2024 world indoor champion Molly Caudery of Great Britain.
Peacock ($) will stream the meet Friday beginning at 11 am Pacific time.
MORTON GAMES
In Dublin, Ireland, many of the same athletes with Washington ties who competed at Tuesday's Cork City International will race in Dublin at the Morton Games on Friday.
Washington's Nathan Green, who won the mile in Cork, will drop down in distance to 800 meters, where he'll face alum and occasional training Sam Ellis, who is part of Husky coach Andy Powell's pro group.
Samantha Friborg, who finished seventh in Cork after getting knocked down with less than 200 to go in the 800, is entered in the 800.
Washington alum Eleanor Fulton, who was fourth in the 3000 in Cork, is in the 1500, along with the Huskies' Sophie O'Sullivan, the reigning Irish national champ at that distance, and fellow Dawg Chloe Foerster.
Foerster ran the third fastest time in UW school history over 3000m on Tuesday in Cork, running 8:58.56.
In the evening's final event, reigning Irish national champion at 5000 meters and UW alum Brian Fay, goes against a field that includes 2024 UW grads Joe Waskom and Luke Houser, along with former UW volunteer coach Sam Prakel in the Morton Mile.
The meet will be streamed on the European Athletics YouTube channel starting at 10 am Pacific time.
ED MURPHEY CLASSIC
In Memphis, a number of athletes from the Seattle based Brooks Beasts will compete in Friday's Ed Murphey Classic on the campus of the University of Memphis.
Valery Tobias and Brannon Kidder are entered in the women's and men's open section of the 800 meters.
Isaiah Harris of the Beasts, who was eliminated in the semifinals at the Olympic Trials, is entered in the invitational section of the men's 800, along with 2023 Washington alum Cass Elliott, who qualified for the Trials after his time at UW as a 400 meter hurdler.
The newest member of the Brooks Beasts, Teagan Schein-Becker, is entered in the women's invitational 800.
Henry Wynne and Waleed Suliman of the Beasts, along with WSU alum Paul Ryan are in the invitational section of the men's 1500.
Former WSU Cougar Charisma Taylor is entered in the women's 100 hurdles, as she sharpens up for the Olympics, where she's expected to compete in the triple jump as well as the 100 hurdles for the Bahamas.
The meet actually gets underway on Thursday with a limited number of field events. WSU alum Kiana Davis is entered in the women's long jump.
