CNW's Tom Anderson wins men's title at Bill Roe Classic, while Western and Chico trade team wins...
FERNDALE--British internationalist Tom Anderson (Paul Merca photo) of Hoka and Club Northwest was an easy winner of the men's 8k race at the Bill Roe Classic at Hovander Homestead Park Saturday.
In a meet appropriately named after the founder of Club Northwest and long time Western Washington coach Bill Roe, Anderson cruised to the win in 23:29, while behind him was a preview of a possible matchup at the NCAA West Regionals in Montana in November matching up the two top teams in the region in USTFCCCA national number 7 Chico State and number 10 Western Washington.
Dylan White of Chico State and Western Washington's Kevin McDermott battled it out for second and third, with White getting ahead on the last lap, crossing the line in 24:03 to McDermott's 24:06.
The Wildcats put all five of their scorers in the top ten, while the Vikings only got George Karamitsos in ninth in 24:17.
Jeret Gillingham was 13th in 24:25, followed by Sten Brakstad in 16th in 24:28, and Jared Alderfer in 23rd in 24:47, giving the Vikings a 1-5 split of 41 seconds, as opposed to Chico State's 1-5 split of 15 seconds.
Saint Martin's was tenth (eighth school) with 287, and Seattle Pacific was eleventh (ninth school) with 303.
Ethan Coon was Saint Martin's top finisher in 41st at 25:28, while Silas Demmert was Seattle Pacific's top man in 66th in 26:08.
In the women's 6k, Constance Nankivell of Canada's Trinity Western was a dominant winner, running 20:19.
Western Washington's lone runner in the top ten was All-American Ashley Reeck who was tenth in 21:26.
Ila Davis in 11th (21:35), Mia Crocker in 12th (21:37), Ella Edens in 14th (21:38) and Sophie Wright in 16th (21:46), gave the Vikings a 1-5 split of 20 seconds to Chico State's 76 seconds.
Western's five in places ten through 16 gave the Vikings a 4 point margin of victory, 58-62, with Alaska Fairbanks third with 93.
Seattle Pacific was fifth with 122 points, led by track All-American Annika Esvelt in seventh at 20:57.
Saint Martin's was ninth with 271 with Kya Ramirez running 23:43 for 67th as their top runner.
GANS CREEK CLASSIC...
In Columbia, Missouri on Friday, the Eastern Washington cross country teams wrapped up their competition at the Gans Creek Classic, with the women finishing 13th with 456 points and the men placing 22nd with 644 points.
In the women's 6k, the Eagles placed three in the top 100, led by 2023 NCAA D2 All-American Cassidy Walchak-Sloan, crossing the line in 66th place with a time of 21:20, closely followed by Jenni Bissell in 67th at 21:21.
Jasmin Muneton was 84th in 21:30.
Brenda Jepchirchir won the race in 19:51, while Stanford took the team title in dominating fashion, scoring 44 points, placing four runners in the top ten.
On the men's side, the Eagles finished 22nd with 644 points over the 8k course.
Eastern placed two runners in the top 100, as Evan Peters led the way, finishing 90th in 24:34, followed by Noah Hasselblad in 96th at 24:36.
Edward Bird of Kentucky was the individual winner in 23:08, while Stanford mirrored the women's dominance by placing all five scorers inside the top 15, scoring 31 points.
