Taylor & Akins each finish sixth in first Athlos NYC meet...

NEW YORK--
In the first all-women's track and field competition offering the largest prize money pool, the Athlos NYC meet at Icahn Stadium drew a near sellout crowd Thursday night, featuring a post meet concert by renowned entertainer Megan Thee Stallion.

In the opening event of the meet, which only offered the 100 hurdles, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500, former Washington State University All-American Charisma Taylor finished sixth in the 100 hurdles.

Taylor did not get a good start, and hit several hurdles, finishing in 13.58, as Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, the former Olympic champion, took the victory in 12.36.

In the 800, US Olympic Trials champion Nia Akins (Paul Merca photo), who left the Brooks Beasts after the conclusion of the Olympics, finished sixth in 2:01.32, as Paris Olympic silver medalist Tsige Duguma of Ethiopia won the race.

Duguma ran from the front, though she was pressed by Budapest world champion Mary Moraa of Kenya, before pulling away in 1:57.43, to Moraa's 1:58.05.

Akins was not in contention, finishing in 2:01.32.

Each of the winners of the six pro races came away with $60,000 — double what the winners received at this year’s Wanda Diamond League final in Brussels (there’s also $25,000 for second, $10,000 for third down to $2,500 for 6th).
