COLLEGE STATION, Texas--
Rosina Machu and Logan Hofstee of Gonzaga (photo courtesy Gonzaga Athletics) both earned their spots to Eugene with their third and eleventh place finish in the 10000 to highlight day 2 of the NCAA West Regionals at EB Cushing Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M Thursday.

After a bit of slow start in which Machu ended up leading through the first 800 meters, she settled down and was part of a group of 13 that went through in 17:53, that included Washington State's Zenah Cheptoo.

Meanwhile, Hofstee was in the front of a chase group that numbered about eight behind the lead group of 13.

The group of 13 dropped to seven, as Cheptoo struggled to stay in the group. Over the final mile, Pamela Kosgei of New Mexico and Diana Cherotich of Oregon broke open the race, leaving the rest of the field in their wake, with Kosgei taking the win in 33:37.04, with Cherotich second in 33:43.18.

Machu was the only runner to try and cover the move, and finished a comfortable third in 33:50.76.

Meanwhile, Hofstee, a freshman from Spokane Valley's East Valley HS, started picking off runners, and turned on the jets over the last 400, covering it in 75.23 to finish 11th in 34:30.82, just over a second ahead of the twelfth and final qualifying spot for nationals.

Cheptoo finished 15th in 34:40.32.

Washington's Maeve Stiles was 21st in 35:00.21, while Gonzaga's Jessica Frydenlund was 26th in 35:11.33, and Alexi Fogo was 31st in 35:24.19.

This marks Machu's second straight NCAA berth in the 10000, where she'll look to improve on her 15th place finish from last year.

Washington's Amanda & Hana Moll (photo courtesy UW Athletics) locked up their spots to Eugene in the pole vault, with both clearing 14-6 (4.42m).

Amanda finished in a tie for third, while Hana was eighth.

Hana needed a third attempt at the opening bar of 13-8.25 (4.17m), while Amanda was clean. Hana cleared the next height of 14-2 (4.32m) on her first attempt, while Amanda needed two tries. On the third height, the reverse was true, as Hana needed two tries, while Amanda cleared on the first attempt.

Competition ended at 14-6 (4.42m) when the original field of 48 was cut to 12. Ka'Leila Abrielle of UCLA and Emily Fitzsimmons of Oregon tied for first as the only two to clear 14-6 (4.42m) with no misses.

Washington State's Tatum Moku tied for 20th at 13-8.25 (4.17m), while Washington's Avril Wilson tied for 31st at the same height.

Washington's Sophie O'Sullivan, Chloe Foerster, and Claire Yerby ran the fastest, second fastest, and fifth fastest times in the first round of the women's 1500.

O'Sullivan won the fourth and final heat in 4:13.81, with Yerby third in 4:14.76. Foerster, who did not compete two weeks ago at the Big Tens as a precaution, won heat three in 4:13.91.

Washington State's Rosemary Longisa was fourth in heat 3 in 4:13.93, while Amina Maatoug of the Huskies was third in heat 2 in 4:17.16.

Gonzaga's Willow Collins was tenth in heat 4 in 4:22.08 and did not advance to Saturday's second round.

Steph Driscoll of the Huskies qualified for Saturday's second round in the 800, finishing third in heat 6 in 2:06.00. Gonzaga's Ellie Armbruster was fifth in heat 5 in 2:08.50, and Washington State's Maya McCabe was eighth in heat 5 in 2:20.41.

At the East Regionals in Jacksonville, Duke freshman Braelyn Baker of Carnation advanced to the second round of the 400 hurdles, finishing third in her heat in 57.34.

Her teammate Allison Neiders of Seattle was scheduled to compete in the pole vault, but her event was postponed to Friday because of weather delay involving the men's pole vault Wednesday. The men's pole vault was moved to Thursday as a result.

In both regionals, the men return to the track with second round action in the lane events plus the 1500. The 5000, steeplechase and both relays will be in action as well. On the field, the discus, triple jump, and high jump will go.
