Moon gets first outdoor win of the Diamond League season in Rabat...
RABAT, Morocco--Former Pullman resident Katie Moon (photo courtesy Wanda Diamond League) earned her first Wanda Diamond League win of the 2025 season at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athletisme Sunday night.
Moon cleared a best of 15-6.25 (4.73m) to hold off the challenge of former Arkansas standout Tina Sutej of Slovenia and American Gabby Leon, who finishes second and third, respectively, at 15-2.25 (4.63m).
After a first attempt clearance at her opening height of 14-9 (4.50m), Moon needed a second attempt to get over 15-2.25 (4.63m).
Moon was the only one of the trio to clear the winning height of 15-6.25 (4.73m). She took three unsuccessful shots at 15-9 (4.80m), which would have been an outdoor world leading mark, and supplanted Amanda Moll's outdoor world leading mark of 15-8.25 (4.78m) set at the Big Ten championships last week.
In the mixed zone, Moon said, "It was even better than in Doha. We are still training through right now and trying to compete. We properly build up fatigue, but honestly it´s good and I felt better than in Doha. I am more focused and able to do better on the runway. Of course I would have loved to jump higher because training goes really well."
Brandon Miller of the Brooks Beasts made an impressive Wanda Diamond League debut, as he finished fourth in an uber-competitive men's 800.
The Paris Olympian ran a personal best 1:43.52 as Botswana's Tshepiso Masalela obliterated the field, which included Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya.
Masalela won in a world leading time of 1:42.70, while Wanyonyi was third in 1:43.37, as he caught Miller steps before the finish line.
In a very fast 1500, former Husky Sam Tanner was 13th in the race, running a season best of 3:35.48, as American Jonah Koech won in a personal best 3:31.43.
Washington alum Eleanor Fulton was one of the pacers in the women's 3000.
The fifth stop in the Wanda Diamond League series is in Rome on June 6th.
