Husky alum Amina Maatoug earns berth on Dutch cross country team at Warandecross...
TILBURG, The Netherlands--Washington alum Amina Maatoug (Paul Merca file photo) earned a spot on the Dutch team for the European Athletics Cross Country Championships over the weekend with her second place finish at the Warandecross Sunday.
Maatoug completed the 10k course in 34:03, just behind the winning time of 33:11 run by Sweden's Sarah Lahti.
The Warandecross, which is a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Silver meeting, also served as the Dutch national championships, even with international entries in the field.
Maatoug, an All-American for the Huskies indoors in the mile and 3000, and in the 5000 outdoors as well as the Big Ten indoor 3000 champ and a world championships competitor in the 1500 in Tokyo, will run for the Dutch team at the European Championships in Lagoa, Portugal on December 14th in the senior women's race.
At the European Championships, she'll join Washington alum Brian Fay, who will compete for Ireland in the senior men's race, as well as current Husky Julia David-Smith, who is in the women's under-23 race for France.
Here's the Dutch federation's announcement of its team for Lagoa:
