IZZI BATT-DOYLE SEVENTH IN VALENCIA...
In Valencia, Spain, Wahington alum Izzi Batt-Doyle (Paul Merca file photo) finished seventh in the Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich on Sunday.
Batt-Doyle, who had a qualifying mark to run the marathon for Australia at the Tokyo world championships in September, opted to run the 10000 on the track.
She finished the race in seventh, running 2:23:35, as Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya won in 2:14:00.
In the men's race, Washington alum Jack Rowe of Great Britain completed his first attempt at the distance, finishing 47th against an international field in 2:12:33.
John Korir of Kenya was the winner in 2:02:24, the third fastest time this season.
WWU'S BEC BENNETT OPENS IN RENO...
In Reno, Nevada, Western Washington's Bec Bennett, who was an indoor All-American in the 400 and distance medley relay in the 2025 season, began her 2026 campaign by finishing third in the women's 400 at the Silver State Invitational meet hosted by the University of Nevada.
Bennett, the reigning GNAC indoor and outdoor champion at 400 meters, ran 55.08, as Annalies Kalma of Nevada won in 52.73.
Bennett also jumped in the 60 meter dash, clocking 7.95.
SAM TANNER WINS NEW ZEALAND ROAD MILE TITLE...
Former Washington Husky Sam Tanner (courtesy The Spectacle Powered by Puma) won his second New Zealand road mile championship Saturday in Whakatu-Nelson.
Tanner won the race in 4:02 in a format against the women, who received a 33.9 second head start.
Washington alum Sophie O'Sullivan was eighth overall and the fourth woman across the line, running 4:48.
