Andrea Geubelle takes early US lead in long jump with win at Jayhawk Classic...
LAWRENCE, Kansas--Competing in her opening meet of the 2014 indoor season, University Place resident Andrea Geubelle (left/photo by Mike Scott) won the long jump competition at the Jayhawk Classic on Friday at the Anschutz Pavilion on the campus of the University of Kansas.
Kansas grad Geubelle, competing against a field of collegians in her first year as a post-collegian, won the event with a facility record mark of 21-4 (6.50m) on her first attempt, which leads the US list, and is the fifth best mark in the world in this young season.
In Moscow, Eastern Washington weight throwers Zach Nielsen (61-6/18.76m), Jordan Arakawa (61-5/18.72m) and Kyle Rothwell (56-4/17.17m) went 1-2-4 in the 35-pound weight throw to highlight the Eagles' showing at the Idaho Collegiate meet at the Kibbie Dome on the campus of the University of Idaho.
The Eagles' Keisa Monterola won the women's pole vault with a clearance of 12-11.5 (3.95m).
