Walker opens 2014 season at UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit...

RENO, Nevada--Reigning US national champion and former world champion Brad Walker (left/photo by Paul Merca) will open his 2014 campaign at the UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit at the Reno Livestock Events Center Friday night.

Walker, now competing for the New York Athletic Club and Mizuno, will jump against a field that includes reigning world and Olympic champ Renaud Lavillenie, former world decathlon champ and Olympic silver medalist Trey Hardee, Japan's Daichi Sawano, and a top domestic field.

The UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit continues Saturday with a full day of competition for athletes of all abilities.


According to a USA Track & Field post on its site, Washington State alum Bernard Lagat has been named to the USA squad that will compete in the Glasgow British Athletics International match on January 25th at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

Lagat, the reigning world champion in the 3000, will run the 3000 for Team USA to open his 2014 indoor season.
