Alexa Efraimson sets personal best in fourth place finish at ISTAF meeting in Berlin...
BERLIN, Germany—Camas native Alexa Efraimson (left/photo by Paul Merca) set a new personal record in the mile with her fourth place finish at the ISTAF meeting at the Olympiastadion Sunday afternoon.
Efraimson, who entered the meet with a personal best of 4:27.39, set two years ago in Rovereto, Italy, dropped it down to 4:24.82, as Marta Pen Freitas of Portugal won in a time of 4:22.45, which was a new meet and national record.
Behind Pen Freitas were Kate Grace of the Portland-based Nike Bowerman TC, who ran 4:23.23, and Konstanze Klosterhalfen of Germany in 4:24.27.
Klosterhalfen led the field with one lap to go before Pen Freitas and Grace took control over the last lap, with Efraimson closing but running out of real estate.
Washington alum Katie Mackey of the Brooks Beasts was ninth in 4:29.81.

In other international news, Kara Winger and Devon Allen were named by the Confederación Sudamericana de Atletismo (ConSudAtle) and the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) to the Americas team for next weekend’s (September 8-9) IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Winger, who finished third on Friday in the Diamond League women’s javelin finals at the Weltklasse Zürich, will throw with Laila Ferrer Domingos of Brazil on the Americas squad.
Allen will have as his teammate Jamaica’s Ronald Levy in the men’s 110 hurdles.
The Americas are one of four teams competing in the IAAF Continental Cup along with the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Africa teams.

CROSS COUNTRY WEEKEND RECAP
Saturday, Saint Martin senior Lindsey Dorney finished second in the season-opening University of Puget Sound Invitational at Ft. Steilacoom State Park in Lakewood, outside of Tacoma.
Dorney completed the 6k course in 24:01, as Emery Bradlina of host Puget Sound won in 23:41.
The Loggers won the women’s team title with 24 points, followed by Pacific Lutheran with 49, and Saint Martin’s with 60.
Freshman Colin Monaghan led the host Loggers to the men’s team title, winning the 8k race in 25:55.
Saint Martin’s freshman Andrew Oslin was the first Saint across the line, finishing fourth in 27:51.
Puget Sound took the men’s team title with 44, three points ahead of Pacific Lutheran’s 47, while Saint Martin’s was third with 49 points.

The Saints are off until September 22nd when they host the Saint Martin’s Invitational on their home course in Lacey.
Late Friday, Washington State senior Nathan Wadhwani won the men’s 6k at the WSU Alumni meet at the Colfax Golf Club.
Wadhwani ran 17:34, three seconds short of his course record set last year in winning this meet.
In the women’s 4k race, freshman Emma Jenkins took the win, running 13:50 to Cougar alum Devon Bortfeld’s 13:53.
Jenkins, a product of Camas HS, was fourth at last year’s Washington 4A cross country championship, and fifth this spring in the 4A 1600m.

The Cougars host the Cougar Classic on September 14th in Colfax, with Eastern Washington and Gonzaga scheduled to send teams.
