Tanner Anderson leads Huskies at Battle in Beantown with sixth place finish...

BOSTON—In his first official race as a member of the University of Washington, Spokane native Tanner Anderson (above/photo by Mike Scott) led the Huskies to a second place team finish Friday at the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College, at Franklin Park.

Anderson, who followed Husky head coach Andy Powell to Washington from the University of Oregon, finished sixth over the 8k course, running 24:15.

Scoring for the Huskies behind Anderson were Tibu Proctor in 11th in 24:19; Talon Hull in 12th in 24:24, Julius Diehr in 17th in 24:33, and Mahmoud Moussa in 24th at 24:43.

Others running for Washington in Boston were Mick Stanovsek in 26th at 24:46, Nick Laccinole in 32nd at 24:53, Nate Beamer in 39th at 24:57, and Alex Slenning in 93rd at 25:43. Chase Equall dropped out after the 3k split.

Hull took the early lead before the field caught him before the 3k mark.

Campbell’s Amon Kemboi took the victory by one second over Syracuse’s Aidan Tooker, 24:02 to 24:03.

Syracuse, the nation’s #10 squad, took the team title with 37 points, followed by the 26th ranked Huskies at 70 points, and 30th ranked Ole Miss was third with 77 points.  Number 17 ranked Virginia was fourth with 98 points, and #12 Campbell, despite placing two in the top three, finished sixth.

In Springfield, University of Colorado transfer Nathan Pixler (left/photo courtesy Seattle University) led Seattle University for the second meet in a row with his 17th place finish at the Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon Friday morning.

Running over the 8k course at the Springfield Golf Course, Pixler, who attended Eastlake HS, ran 25:48.

Behind Pixler for the Redhawks were Cal Davidson-Turner in 20th (26:05), Jacques Hebert in 23rd (26:18), Ben Monk in 25th (26:23), and Kyle Kennedy in 26th (26:30), giving SeattleU a 1-5 split of 42 seconds.

Portland’s Reuben Kiprono was the individual winner in 24:39, helping the number 3 ranked Pilots win the team title with 20 points, followed by number 7 Oregon’s 40, and SeattleU’s 76 points.

Gig Harbor native Tristan Peloquin of the University of Portland finished fifth overall in 25:00.

In the women’s 6k race, Megan Delorey led the way for SeattleU with her 35th place finish in 22:22.

Also scoring for the Redhawks were Rachel Kastama in 37th (22:41), Shannan Higgins in 39th (22:55), Marie-Therese Chahrouri in 41st (23:28), and Thea Foulk in 42nd (23:37).

The Redhawks finished fifth with 151 points, as #4 ranked Oregon scored a perfect 15, followed by Nevada’s 62, UC Davis’ 80, and Portland’s 83.

SeattleU next races on October 13th at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, California.
