Both Husky teams move up in USTFCCCA Division I polls released Tuesday...

NEW ORLEANS—Both of the University of Washington cross country teams were not punished by the national voters polled for the USTFCCCA Division I rankings which were released Tuesday, despite the fact that Husky program director Maurica Powell (left/photo courtesy UW Sports Information) said that the team was running its season-opening Sundodger Invitational as a controlled tempo run.

The Washington women actually moved up two spots in the first official poll after the first full weekend of competition around the country.

Washington moved from number 18 in the coaches’ pre-season poll to number 16, the highest movement by any team in the national top 30.

The nation’s top five women’s teams are defending national champion New Mexico, Colorado, Stanford, Oregon, and Boise State, the team that won the women’s title at the Sundodger last Saturday.

The only other Pac-12 women’s team that made the top 30 was number 21 Cal.

On the men’s side, Washington actually moved up one spot from the pre-season poll to #26, while Washington State held at number 13.

The men’s top five according to the voters include #1 defending champ Northern Arizona, BYU, Portland, Stanford, and Iowa State.

Other Pac-12 schools ranked in the national top-30 include #7 Colorado, #8 Oregon, and #20 UCLA.

Washington State returns to action this Friday as they host the Cougar Classic at the Colfax Golf Course.

The complete national rankings are available here.
