Part II of my guest appearance with Jeremy Taiwo & Tim Duckworth's "Inside the Oval" podcast now up...
Part 2 of my guest appearance with decathletes Jeremy Taiwo and Tim Duckworth (left/photo by Paul Merca) on their podcast/vlog "Inside the Oval" is now available for you to view.
In this episode, we discuss my history of covering the world track & field championships (I've covered every world championship meet except one since 1991), discuss Rick Noji's ascent as a world class high jumper from Franklin High School to making three world championship teams (not to mention his 60 meter dash race in January 1988, where he faced Olympic 200m bronze medalist Thomas Jefferson, former world record holder Calvin Smith, and world record holder Ben Johnson of Canada).
We also talk about some of the issues of the day, including the current attempt by triple jumper Christian Taylor to mobilize many of the world's top track & field athletes to form a union, suspensions for PED usage in the sport versus suspensions in the major pro sports (hint: those major pro sports have strong players unions); the current state of the decathlon, and how realistic it is to incorporate the decathlon for women.
Also discussed are some of the preparations that photographers go through when shooting a big event like the world championships, including setting up remote cameras, and the process of getting access to the infield to shoot an event.
