SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California--University of Washington senior Allie Schadler (photo by Paul Merca) won her section of the women's 5000 to highlight performances by Washington-affiliated athletes at The Track Meet, contested at a high school in the Orange County area in southern California Friday night.

With the timetable for attaining Olympic Trials and Games qualifying standards now reopened, The Track Meet was created by former Seattle resident & Brooks Running sports marketing manager Jesse Williams of Sound Running as a way for athletes to chase the standards.

In Friday night's 5000 meter races, Schadler, a Husky senior from Rio Rico HS in Arizona, was part of a group of seven runners that went through 3000 meters in 9:25, with Inglemoor HS and University of Portland alum Tansey Lystad leading the group.

Schadler took command of the race with two laps to go, running the last 800 in 2:21.64, closing with a final 400 of 68.66 to cross the line in 15:33.47.

That time is the second fastest mark outdoors in UW history, just behind the school record of 15:24.16 set by Amy-Eloise Neale in 2018.

Husky teammate Haley Herberg finished fifth in 15:40.86, which is the sixth fastest time in Husky history. Lystad, who helped with the early lead, finished sixth in a personal best 15:41.27.

In the top section of the women's 5000, Washington alum Eleanor Fulton finished sixth in a personal best 15:32.98, as American record holder Shelby Houlihan of the Portland based Nike Bowerman TC won in an Olympic Games qualifying mark of 15:02.55, under the Olympic standard of 15:10.00.

In the men's 5000 heats, Husky senior Andrew Jordan finished fifth in his section, running 13:39.59 to become the second fastest in school history outdoors, in a heat won by former UW volunteer coach and 2016 Olympic 1500m champ Matthew Centrowitz in 13:32.92.  Butler University alum Tom Anderson, a British citizen who now resides in Seattle and runs for Club Northwest, was third in that heat in 13:34.05.

In another section, Washington State's Paul Ryan set a personal best 13:44.95 to finish third, while Julius Diehr of the Huskies was 11th in a personal best 13:56.79 to just miss making the top 10 in school history.

Current UW volunteer coach Sam Prakel finished ninth in the top section of the men's 5000, running a personal best 13:41.79, as Luis Grijalva of Northern Arizona took the win in 13:16.75.

The meet resumes Saturday with two men's and women's heats of the 10000 meters starting at 7:20pm, pacific. Washington alum Fred Huxham is entered in the first of two men's heats.

Media partner RunnerSpace.com ($) will stream the meet live on the USATF.tv platform.
