As was the case in 2019, athletes will be able to qualify for the World Championships by achieving an entry standard or through their placing on the world rankings.
The qualifying standards in the individual events are identical to the qualifying standards for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
One change from the Olympic program and past world championships is that the 50 kilometer walk will be replaced by the 35 kilometer walk.
The qualifying period for the marathon and 35km race walk opened on 30 November 2020 and ends on 29 May 2022. For the 10,000m, 20km race walk, relays and combined events, the window runs from 27 December 2020 until 26 June 2022. For all other disciplines, the qualification period is 27 June 2021 to 26 June 2022.
Wild cards will be offered to defending world champions from Doha. as will the winners of the 2021 Diamond League, Race Walk Challenge, Combined Events Challenge and the leading hammer performers on the Continental Tour. Area champions in selected disciplines and top-10 finishers at Platinum Label marathons during the qualification period shall also be considered as having achieved the entry standard.

NO FANS ALLOWED AT NCAA INDOOR AND CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS...
On Tuesday, the NCAA Division I men's and women's track & field and cross country committee met by video conference.
Even with a vaccine for COVID-19 available as soon as the next few days, the committee has decided not to allow spectators for either the NCAA indoor championship meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas or the cross country championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Additionally, the committee voted to move the start of the outdoor qualifying period from March 1st to February 1st to give additional opportunities for those schools who may have limited chances to compete indoors.
