Anthony Smith named USTFCCCA D1 men's athlete of the week for performance in Spokane...

NEW ORLEANS--
The University of Washington's Anthony Smith (Paul Merca photo) was named by the USTFCCCA as its NCAA Division I men's athlete of the week for his performance at the Spokane Invitational Saturday.

Smith, a sophomore from Snoqualmie via Eastside Catholic HS, won the 200 meters at The Podium, defending his Spokane Invitational crown in a time of 21.28, the fastest time so far in the young 2022-23 indoor season. It's also the fifth fastest time indoors in school history, and the fastest time by a Husky since 2017.

Smith set an indoor personal best, eclipsing his previous best of 21.43, set at the WSU Invitational at The Podium in February. In three meets over 200 meters at the Spokane facility, Smith is undefeated.

About an hour later, he anchored the Huskies to victory in the 4 x 400 meter relay, splitting 47.19, as the Dawgs ran 3:11.67.

This is the second year in a row that the Washington men’s program has been honored with a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week plaudit during the indoor season. The Huskies took one back to Seattle last year when they became the third fastest program in collegiate history in the distance medley relay.
