Hana Moll & Joe Waskom announce their spots on Team USA for world championships...

While USA Track & Field has not officially posted their press release as of Saturday night, both Capital HS/Olympia's Hana Moll (Paul Merca photo) and the University of Washington's Joe Waskom have announced on their social media accounts that they indeed are going to Budapest to compete at the World Athletics Outdoor Track & Field Championships, beginning August 19th at the National Athletics Centre.

Moll's coach at the Northwest Pole Vault Club in Seattle, Tim Reilly, posted this on his Instagram account:

Moll, who will be an incoming freshman at the University of Washington, finished third in the pole vault at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a clearance of 15-1.5 (4.61m) to become the second high school pole vaulter to clear 15 feet behind her twin sister Amanda.

The reigning world U20 champ from last year's championships in Cali, Colombia tied her sister for the absolute US national high school record in the event. The mark is also a NACAC U-20 best, and they share the current world lead by U-20 vaulters.

Waskom finished second in the men's 1500 at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships in a time of 3:35.32, then lowered his personal best and University of Washington school record a week later, running 3:34.64 on July 14th in Lignano, Italy.

Both Moll and Waskom did not have the World Athletics automatic qualifying standards in their events, but had enough world rankings points and were inside the Road to Budapest quotas to warrant an invitation to the world championships.

It is presumed that both Walla Walla native Kenneth Rooks in the steeplechase, and Isaiah Harris of the Brooks Beasts in the 800, who like Moll and Waskom, did not have the standards, but were inside the Road to Budapest quotas for their events, have both received word that they are competing at the world championships. USATF sent those athletes who were inside the quota an email on Friday confirming their positions on the US team.
