Seattle Pacific hires Wayne State's Eric Hansen as lead assistant track/XC coach...

SEATTLE--
Seattle Pacific University formally announced the hiring of Eric Hansen (photo courtesy Wayne State Athletics) as its lead assistant to head coach and program director Karl Lerum.

Hansen will serve as the distance coach for the Falcons and also work with the cross country team.

"We're really excited to hire a coach the caliber of Eric," Lerum said. "He has had a couple different stops and has worked in a couple different divisions and comes from a program that is fresh off a national cross country berth. He has done the work to build a team and succeed at the highest levels of Division II."

Hansen comes to the Falcons from Division II Wayne State University in Detroit, where he served as an assistant coach for the past four seasons. Before that, Hansen coached for two years (2017-19) at Wilmington College, a D3 school in Ohio, before moving on to Wayne State.

Under Hansen's guidance during the just-completed 2022-23 school year, the Warriors women finished program-best ninth at the D2 cross country nationals as part of the Fall Sports Festival that was hosted by Seattle Pacific. He's also taken the Wayne State men's team to the national cross country championships, finishing 15th in 2021.

A native of Solon, Ohio, Hansen competed as a freshman and sophomore at D3 John Carroll University in Ohio, then moved to Ashland University, a D2 school also in Ohio, for his junior and senior seasons. He ran cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track all four years. He graduated from Ashland with a degree in exercise science in 2017.

Seattle Pacific opens the 2023 cross country season at the Puget Sound Invitational in Tacoma at Fort Steillacoom State Park.
