Washington alum Kieran Lumb (center/Paul Merca photo) made a triumphant return to British Columbia Saturday night in winning the 1500 meters Saturday night at the Harry Jerome Track Festival at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.
With Seattle residents Derek Holdsworth and Sam Ellis doing the pacing for Lumb, Holdsworth took the field through the first 400 in about 57 seconds before pulling off the track with two laps to go.
Ellis took over and took Lumb and eventual second place finisher Kieran Tuntivate of the Nike Bowerman TC through 800 in 1:53, and the bell lap at 2:36, before stepping off the track past the 1200 mark in 2:51.
Tuntivate kept it close for the next 200 meters, but as they exited the turn, Lumb, a native of nearby Vancouver, pulled away to win in a meet record 3:34.53. Tuntivate finished in 3:36.16.
