Husky alum Izzi Batt-Doyle positions herself for second Australian Olympic team in 5000m...


In Liege, Belgium, Washington alum Izzi Batt-Doyle (Paul Merca photo), who was not selected by the Australian federation in the marathon, put herself in position to qualify for her second Olympic team Wednesday night at the Meeting International D'Athletisme de la Province de Liege.

Batt-Doyle, who competed at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago at 5000, ran a personal best 14:49.75 to go under the Olympic standard of 14:52.00.

The 2019 graduate finished fourth, as Ethiopia's Marta Alemayo Welteji on in 14:39.61.

Batt-Doyle is currently the third Australian to hold the Olympic standard, behind Rose Davies (14:41.65), and Oregon alum Jessica Hull (14:44.24).

Washington alum Ed Trippas, looking to make his second Australian Olympic team, get under the Olympic standard of 8:15.00, or get enough world rankings points for consideration to the field for the Paris Olympics, finished 13th in 8:38.85.

Leo Magnusson of Sweden won in 8:21.74.


The Olympic qualifying period ends on June 30th.
