Katie Nageotte takes fourth at Karlsruhe; Dillon Maggard of Brooks Beasts finishes 16th at USATF Cross Country Championships...

In Karlsruhe, Germany, Pullman’s Katie Nageotte (above/photo by Howard Lao) finished fourth in the pole vault at the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe at the Messehalle, the second stop of the IAAF World Indoor Tour, Saturday evening.

Nageotte cleared a best of 15-2.25 (4.63m), as Canada’s Alysha Newman, Russia’s Anzhelika Sidorova, and Greece’s Katerina Stefanidi all ended the competition in a 3-way tie for first at 15-5.5 (4.71m).

Katie cleared her opening height of 14-11, then needed two tries to clear 15-2.25 (4.63m), before bowing out at 15-5.5 (4.71m).

The IAAF World Indoor Tour moves on to Torun, Poland for the Orlen Copernicus Cup on February 6th.

In Tallahassee, Florida, Dillon Maggard of the Brooks Beasts was the top local finisher at the USATF Cross Country Championships Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park.

With spots on Team USATF to next month’s IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark on the line for the top six finishers in the men’s and women’s senior 10k, under-20 men’s 8k, and under-20 women’s 6k, Maggard finished 16th in a time of 30:00.

Former Puyallup resident David Elliott finished one place behind Maggard in a time of 30:02, while Garrett Heath of the Brooks Beasts, who was in the front pack for the first four laps of the 2k Apalachee Regional Park course, faded to 23rd in 30:20.

Shadrack Kipchirchir won his first USATF cross country title in a time of 28:53, leading four other members of his American Distance Project training group across the line.

In the women’s 10k, Allie Buchalski of the Brooks Beasts was the top Washington finisher, crossing the line in 20th place in a time of 34:41.

Kirkland’s Tansey Lystad was 35th in 36:13, while Pasco native Marisa Howard was 36th in 36:41.

Shelby Houlihan of the Beaverton-based Nike Bowerman TC won the national cross country title in a time of 32:47, as four other Bowerman TC teammates finished in the top seven.

Runner-up Molly Huddle (32:56), and fourth placer Aliphine Tuliamuk (33:04) are apparently declining their spots on Team USATF for the world cross country championships to prepare for spring marathons.

Nicole Clermont of Boston College (21:14), and Shuaib Aljabaly of the University of Wisconsin (24:39) won the under-20 women’s and men’s races.
