Washington women drop out of USTFCCCA D1 national indoor track & field rating index top 25...

NEW ORLEANS—With only marks from the 2019 season counting from this point forward, the Washington women’s team dropped from number 11 last week to number 39 in the USTFCCCA Division I women’s indoor track and field ranking index released Monday.

The nation’s top five women’s teams in order are: Arkansas, USC, LSU, Oregon, and Kentucky.

Teams from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation that are ranked in the national top 25 include #16 BYU, and #25 UCLA.

Washington’s ranking in the top 25 in earlier releases of the ranking index was based on 2017 and 2018 marks from three notable athletes: Katie Rainsberger (left/photo by Paul Merca), Lilli Burdon, and Olivia Gruver.

Rainsberger’s 2019 marks in the mile and 3000 are just short of her 2017 bests of 4:35.60 and 9:01.21. Burdon’s marks this season are not factored in Washington’s index score, and Gruver has not competed in a Washington uniform so far this indoor season. Washington’s highest ranking in the index is #5 in the distance medley relay, of which Rainsberger and Burdon are part of.

On the men’s side, Washington remains at number 37, while Washington State jumps 57 spots to number 50, thanks to Emmanuel Wells’ 6.53 time in the 60 meter dash in Albuquerque last Saturday (altitude converted down to 6.55), which is ranked #3 in NCAA Division I.

The nation’s top five men’s teams are, in order: Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Florida, Houston, and LSU.

MPSF teams in the top 25 are number 9 Stanford, #12 Oregon, #13 USC, #16 BYU, and #23 UCLA.
