BREAKING: Snow threat in Seattle forces Husky Classic to compress to one-day meet...

The impending snow storm that is supposed to hit the Seattle area Friday afternoon has changed the status of Friday and Saturday’s Husky Classic at the Dempsey Indoor.

The meet is now being compressed into a one-day meet, according to an email Thursday night sent by University of Washington director of track & field Maurica Powell and head coach Andy Powell.

“As you may be aware, in anticipation of significant snowfall beginning on Friday afternoon, the University of Washington Seattle campus will suspend operations at 12:30 pm, Friday, February 8, and all day on Saturday, February 9.  Accordingly, the Husky Classic will be halted at 4pm on Friday afternoon. We will collapse our schedule into a condensed time frame FRIDAY ONLY.  The competition director will assess conditions throughout the day and will determine if further schedule changes are necessary.”

“In the interest of creating a meet program that provides NCAA qualifying opportunities we will prioritize holding those events with the most potential NCAA qualifiers, as well as those original Day 1 events for which most competitors are already safely in Seattle. We will condense heats and flights as best we can and do everything possible to provide competitive opportunities given our time limitations tomorrow.”

“We are working on a final time schedule and will have new heats configured soon- we'll get this out to you as soon as we can.”

According to the attachment to the email sent to athletes and coaches, packet pickup will start at 6:30 am at the Dempsey, while the ticket office for spectators opens at 8 am, with 9 am the anticipated start of the first event.
