Although there are a handful of athletes competing over the next four days who hope to return to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon for the US Olympic Track & Field Trials which starts next weekend, the collegiate track and field season comes to a close Wednesday through Saturday with the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

The meet returns to Hayward after it was closed for remodeling after the 2018 meet, only to have the pandemic put the kibosh on the 2020 championships, and for that matter, the entire 2020 outdoor season.

The men will compete on Wednesday and Friday, while the women take to the Hayward track on Thursday and Saturday. The only exception to that is in the decathlon for men which goes Wednesday/Thursday, and the women's heptathlon, which is on Friday/Saturday.

The ESPN family of networks will have coverage of all four days of competition. with ESPN3 having dedicated streaming coverage of field events to supplement what's shown on ESPNU and ESPN2.

The University of Washington has 12 athletes in the meet, led by shot putter Jonah Wilson, discus thrower Elijah Mason, and 400 hurdler Darhian Mills, all of whom competed in the 2019 championship meet.

Washington State sends a contingent of eight athletes, led by 2019 returnee Mitch Jacobson in the high jump, while Eastern Washington's lone competitor is pole vaulter Morgan Fossen, who competed at Lane Community College in Eugene before transferring to Eastern.

Gonzaga's lone entry in the NCAA meet is James Mwaura, who will double in the 10000 on Wednesday, and the 5000 on Friday.

Other athletes with Washington ties entered in the meet include Woodinville native Olivia Markezich of Notre Dame in the steeplechase; Spokane native John Dressel of Colorado in the 10000; Mountlake Terrace HS grad Chinne Okoronkwo of Texas Tech in the pole vault; Bremerton native Keshun McGee of Alabama in the triple jump; and Bothell native Ryan Croson of Baylor in the 4 x 400 relay.
