Both Husky squads stay in the USTFCCCA D1 national top 25 this week...

NEW ORLEANS--The University of Washington track and field teams continued their stay as one of the nation's top 25 teams with the release of this week's USTFCCCA Division I National Indoor Track & Field Rating Index.

The Washington women's team dropped two spots to number 15 in the latest ranking index. With only the throws and sprint groups competing over the weekend, the Huskies did not pick up any points from those two groups.

Currently, their highest nationally ranked event is the distance medley relay team of Madison Heisterman, Carley Thomas (Paul Merca photo), Anna Gibson and Allie Schadler, which is second behind BYU. Heisterman is the highest ranked individual, as she's ranked number five in the mile after last weekend's meets.

Florida, Texas, Arkansas, LSU & Kentucky are the nation's top five women's teams, according to the national index, which only accounts for marks make in the 2022 indoor season.

Oregon at number 13 is the only Pac-12 school ranked in the top 25.

The Husky men dropped four spots to number 24 in the ranking index. Like the women's team, the men's squad did not pick up any index ranking points over the weekend from the sprints and throws groups.

Brian Fay and Kieran Lumb are the Huskies' two highest ranked individuals nationally, with the duo occupying the numbers 3 and 4 positions in the mile.

Texas, North Carolina A&T, Texas Tech, Georgia, and Northern Arizona are the nation's top five men's teams this week.

Oregon at number 18, Arizona State at 19, and USC at number 21 are the Pac-12 schools in the rankings this week.

STUFF WE MISSED & OVERLOOKED...

Washington State's outstanding jumper and hurdler Charisma Taylor (Kirby Lee/Image of Sport photo) has found a new home at the University of Tennessee.

At Washington State, she was a Pac-12 and MPSF scorer in the hurdles and the triple jump, and finished fifth in the triple jump at last year's NCAA indoor championship.

This season, Taylor's already set personal bests in the 60 hurdles (8.02), long jump (28-8.5/6.31m), and triple jump (45-7.25/13.90m).

A trio of Washington grads have found homes as grad transfers, with sprinters Kemuel Santana now competing at the University of Florida, and Evan Mafilas now at the University of Oregon.

Canadian distance runner Shona McCullough, who ran at the NCAA cross country championships for the Huskies twice in her career and scored in the Pac-12 championships in the steeple, is now at Syracuse.
