Nia Akins of Brooks Beasts PRs at 800m in win at Ed Murphey Classic...
MEMPHIS, Tennessee--Nia Akins of the Brooks Beasts (Paul Merca photo) continued the good vibes started Friday night by teammate Marta Pen Freitas by winning the pro 800 meters at the Ed Murphey Classic on the campus of the University of Memphis Saturday afternoon.
Akins ran a personal best 1:58.78, as she took command of the race from Olivia Baker of the Atlanta Track Club over the last 150 meters.
This marked her second personal best at 800 meters this season, with the previous coming at The Track Meet in San Juan Capistrano, California in May. In that race, she crossed the line in 1:58.82.
Akins' Beasts teammate Laurie Barton finished sixth in a time of 2:00.94.
In the men's pro 800, Brannon Kidder of the Beasts was fourth in 1:46.41, as Jonah Koech of the US Army won in 1:44.95.
Isaiah Harris of the Beasts was eighth in 1:47.80.
The Ed Murphey Classic was the final stop in the 2022 American Track League tour.
