World Athletics U20 champs start Monday in Cali, Colombia...
CALI, Colombia--Eight days after the conclusion of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, the World Athletics Under-20 Championships begin Monday and concludes Saturday at Pascal Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia.
More than 1,500 athletes from 145 nations will compete in the world's top age-group championship, including several who took part in the recently completed World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
Team USA has several athletes competing on the squad with Washington ties, led by national 1500m U20 champ Nathan Green (Paul Merca photo), who finished seventh at the NCAA championships in his specialty.
The first round of the men's 1500 is scheduled for 9:45am local time in Cali (7:45am in Seattle), with the finals on Wednesday at 5:55pm local time (3:55pm in Seattle).
Also in the meet are twins Amanda & Hana Moll of Olympia's Capital HS in the pole vault, who also compete on Monday at 3:26 pm local time (1:26 pm in Seattle), with the finals on Wednesday at 3:55pm local time (1:55pm in Seattle), and JaiCieonna Gero-Holt of Emerald Ridge HS in the heptathlon, who competes on Wednesday and Thursday.
University of Washington rising sophomore Anthony Smith will represent Turkey in the 200 meters. He also competes on Wednesday in the heats and semifinals. The 200m finals are scheduled for Thursday.
