Isaiah Harris of Brooks Beasts runs fastest 800m in nearly two years at USATF NYC GP...
In New York, Isaiah Harris (Paul Merca photo) of the Brooks Beasts had a strong outing Saturday afternoon at the USATF NYC Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
Harris ran a season best 1:45.11 in front a good crowd at Icahn Stadium and a nationally televised audience on NBC, as he finished second to Bryce Hoppel, who also ran a season best 1:44.55.
The time was his fastest in nearly two years, when he ran 1:44.76 at the MĂĽller British Grand Prix Diamond League meet on July 13, 2021.
In the men's 110 hurdles, former Renton resident and current Philadelphia Eagles practice squad member Devon Allen finished second in a season best.
Allen ran 13.04, as Daniel Roberts got to a good start and held off a late charge from Allen to win in 13.01.
Henry Wynne of the Brooks Beasts started at the back of the pack through the first 400 and stayed there through the 1300 meter mark. He made a late push, working his way to finish third in 3:38.35, as Eric Holt won in 3:37.07.
Devin Dixon of the Brooks Beasts won the men's 800 at the Stumptown High Performance meet Saturday afternoon at Jesuit HS in Portland.
The Texas A&M alum rolled through the first 400 right at 53 seconds, then made a hard push the last 250 meters, taking the lead coming off the final turn, then holding off the late charge of Olympic 1500 meter finalist Cole Hocker.
Dixon finished in a season best 1:45.98, with Hocker second in 1:46.32.
Beasts teammate Kyle Langford was eighth in the heat at 1:47.47.
After the race, Dixon said, "I felt that I had more in the tank and had to turn on the gas before everyone else did".
Nia Akins of the Beasts went to the front in the top section of the women's 800 and stayed there, winning in 1:59.76, after going through the first 400 in just under 60 seconds.
In the women's 1500, Laurie Barton of the Beasts won the second section in a personal best 4:08.68, and ended up finishing second overall.
In her section, former Seattle Pacific and Oregon State grad Kaylee Mitchell was second in 4:10.85 and sixth overall. UW hall of fame member Katie Follett was 11th in 4:21.12.
The top section of the women's 1500 saw Allie Buchalski of the Beasts finish second in 4:10.21, and teammate Julia Heymach ninth in 4:12.80.
Kirkland native Dillon Maggard of the Beasts was second overall in the men's 1500, running 3:39.83, as he dropped down in distance to sharpen up for the USATF outdoor championships in two weeks in Eugene.
UW grad Aaron Ahl was tenth in 3:41.64, and Tacoma native Jack Yearian was 12th in 4:10.70.
In the second section of the 1500, WSU grad Zach Stallings was 12th in his heat at 3:53.97. UW grad Will Laird was second in section 3, running 3:48.09.
Gonzaga alum Kyle Radosevich was 10th in the top section of the men's 5000 in 14:01.52.
In Fayetteville, Arkansas Friday, Eastern Washington alum Parker Bowden ran 13.62 in his preliminary heat to advance to the finals in the 110 hurdles at the Trackwired Arkansas Grand Prix at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Unfortunately, he pulled up before the ninth hurdle and did not finish, after hitting hurdles 6 and 7.
The race was won by Cordell Tinch of Division II Pittsburg State, who, perhaps motivated after being snubbed as a semi-finalist for The Bowerman, ran a world leading 12.96.
