Moon keeps Wanda Diamond League winning streak alive in Lausanne...

In Lausanne, Switzerland, former Pullman resident Katie Moon (Chiara Montesano/Diamond League photo) continued her winning ways at the Athletissima meeting Friday night at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise, clearing a world leading 15-9.75 (4.82m).

The reigning world and Olympic champion entered the competition at 14-9.5 (4.51m), but needed a second attempt. Moon got back on track with a first attempt make at 15-1.5 (4.61m), but was still behind New Zealand's Eliza McCartney, and Finland's Wilma Murto.

Katie needed a third attempt make at 15-5.5 (4.71m) to stay alive and maintain third place.

The tide turned first when McCartney was eliminated at 15-7.75 (4.77m) after being clean on the previous heights, while Murto made on her first attempt. Moon passed, knowing that a make at that height wouldn't move her up in the standings.

At the eventual winning height of 15-9.75 (4.82m), Murto missed all three attempts, while Moon came through on the third attempt.

The world's number one pole vaulter missed all three attempts at 16-0.75 (4.90m) to close out the competition, and keep her 2023 Diamond League winning streak intact.

Afterwards, she told the media, "A WL performance a week ahead of the US trials is amazing. Although I do not have (the) usual pressure that we feel ahead of the US trials as I am already qualified (as defending world champ) but it´s the US trials and it is always competitive."

After four meets in the pole vault, Moon is the Diamond League points leader with 30 points, as they aim for a spot in the finals in September at Historic Hayward Field.

In the final track race of the evening, Josh Kerr of the Brooks Beasts finished third in the men's 1500 meters behind reigning Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway, who ran to a new meet record of 3:28.72.

Just ahead of Kerr was world steeplechase record holder Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia, who set a new national record of 3:29.51.

Kerr crossed the line in a season best 3:29.64.

Two places behind Kerr was former Husky Sam Tanner, who ran a season best 3:32.27.

After Friday night's meet, Kerr stands eighth with 6 points, while Tanner is tied for 11th with 4 points.

It was a rough outing for Washington alum Gianna Woodruff, as she finished eighth in the women's 400 hurdles, running 56.68, as Femke Bol of the Netherlands won in a meet record 52.76.

Woodruff remains in a tie for third in the 400 hurdles after four meets with 15 points, as Bol leads with 24 points.

The Wanda Diamond League tour moves on to Stockholm, Sweden for Sunday's Bauhaus Galan meet, where Washington alum Kieran Lumb will run in the men's 3000, which will not offer Diamond League points.

BATT-DOYLE FINISHES ASICS HALF-MARATHON FOURTH IN GOLD COAST...

In Gold Coast, Australia, Washington alum Izzi Batt-Doyle finished fourth at the Asics Half Marathon Saturday morning as a tuneup for her first world championships appearance next month in Budapest.

The UW grad was recently selected by the Australian federation to run the marathon based on her 2:27:54 time set in Nagoya, Japan on March 12th.

Keira D'Amato of the United States, who was eighth at the world championships in the marathon in Eugene, won the race in an American record 1:06:39.
