Hana Moll, Joe Waskom & Josh Kerr nominated for Seattle Sports Star of the Year Award...

SEATTLE--
The Seattle Sports Commission announced Wednesday that pole vaulter Hana Moll (Paul Merca photo), along with Washington alum Joe Waskom, and Josh Kerr of Seattle's Brooks Beasts pro team have been nominated for its Sports Star Of the Year award.

The Sports Star of the Year award is Washington state's premier awards presentation, celebrating professional and amateur athletes from various sports and teams from the state of Washington.

The event was founded over 90 years ago by the legendary Royal Brougham, who was the sports editor and columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Washington’s biggest night out for sports features a pre-show reception and live awards show, which will be held Thursday February 27th at the Seattle Convention Center Summit in downtown Seattle.

Moll, who became the first freshman to win the NCAA indoor pole vault crown last March, also won the Pac-12 title in that event, finished third at the NCAA outdoor championships, and was sixth at the US Olympic Track & Field Trials.

Waskom won his second NCAA 1500 meter crown in three years, taking the title that he won in 2022, running 3:39.48. A few weeks later, he ran a personal best 3:33.74 to finish seventh at the US Olympic Trials.

Kerr set a world best in the two mile at the Millrose Games in New York, running 8:00.67, and won the 3000 at the world indoor championships in Glasgow.

Kerr finished second in the 1500 at the Olympics in Paris in what arguably was one of the best men's race of the entire Olympic track and field competition. His season also included a win in the mile at the Nike Prefontaine Classic over Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen, running 3:45.34, and a fifth place finish in the 1500 at the Diamond League meet in ZĂĽrich, running 3:31.46 after the Olympics.

The women's nominees for the Sports Star Of the Year include forward Nneka Ogwumike of the Seattle Storm; multi sports standout Sarah Lessig of Seattle's Garfield HS; two time US Olympic gymnast and gold medalist Jordan Chiles from Vancouver; and USA Volleyball Paralympian Katie Holloway Bridge from Lake Stevens.

Other men's nominees include Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams; midfielder Albert Rusnák of Seattle Sounders FC; catcher Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, and quarterback John Mateer from Washington State.

MILLER TO TARGET WORLD RECORD IN 600M AT MILLROSE GAMES...

Organizers of the Millrose Games in New York announced that Brandon Miller of the Brooks Beasts (Paul Merca photo) is entered in the men's 600 meters, where he'll face Olympians Isaiah Jewett and Quincy Wilson.

Miller, an Olympian at 800 meters last year, along with Jewett, and high school sensation Wilson, will take aim at the current world indoor best of 1:13.77, set by Donovan Brazier in 2019.
