Pro notes on a very light weekend...

Thanks to a slight quirk in the calendar, none of Washington's nine Division I and II track and field teams are in action this weekend, as school started for the majority of them this past Monday.

This is a very light news week but there were some significant announcements on the pro side:

The Millrose Games in New York announced that Josh Kerr (photo courtesy Brooks Running) of the Seattle based Brooks Beasts will return to the meet to run the Wanamaker Mile on February 8th.

Kerr, who is the reigning world champion at 1500 meters and the Olympic silver medalist, will face a field that includes American Yared Nuguse, who finished one spot behind him in the Paris Olympic final at 1500 meters last year.

In New York they will be joined by USA’s world road mile champion Hobbs Kessler and Britain’s Neil Gourley, who each finished second to Nuguse in the past two editions of the Wanamaker Mile, plus Italy’s Pietro Arese and Azeddine Habz of France.

Patriot's Day is a few months away, but Washington alum Lindsay Flanagan and former Brooks Beast Jessica McClain were announced by the Boston Marathon as part of the pro women's field.

Also announced as part of the women's pro field is Washington alum Kaylee Flanagan, Lindsay's younger sister.

Seattle Pacific alum Turner Wiley was named by the Boston Marathon as part of the men's pro field.

Finally, for those of you in Eastern Washington, the first indoor meet of 2025 happens in Spokane at The Podium, as the facility hosts the Spokane High School Preview Friday night and all day Saturday.

Media partner RunnerSpace.com ($) will stream the meet.

NOTE: World Athletics, the Millrose Games, Brooks Running, Spokane Sports, and the Boston Marathon contributed to this report.
