After an absence, Cougars return to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships...

After a weekend which saw freshman Evans Kurui (Paul Merca photo) break a 49-year old school record in the indoor 5000 meters, along with school records by freshman Rosemary Longisa in the mile and sophomore Grant Buckmiller in the 400, Washington State returns to action when they head north to Spokane for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships at The Podium.

The Cougars return to the MPSF after an absence of several years, when all of the schools from the old Pac-12 Conference left the MPSF when Seattle and the University of Washington stopped hosting the meet.

With the Cougars in limbo after they and Oregon State were the two remaining schools in the Pac-12, those two schools joined the MPSF, where they'll compete against CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, Portland, San Francisco, St. Mary's (CA), UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Riverside for individual and team titles.

Action at The Podium gets underway at 10 am with the heptathlon 60 meter dash and 10:15 with the pentathlon 60 hurdles.

The main portion of the meet begins on the field at 2:30 with the men's weight throw, featuring former Washington prep standout and US Olympic Trials hammer throw finalist Trey Knight from Ridgefield, now competing at Cal State Northridge. Track racing begins at 3:10 pm with prelims in the women's 60 hurdles and goes until 6 pm.
