Husky women rocket up to number 13 in USTFCCCA rating index; UW men at number 4...

After this past weekend's series of meets, both University of Washington squads made moves up the rankings in the latest USTFCCCA National Indoor Track & Field Rating Index, released Tuesday.

The Washington women made the biggest move over the previous rating, jumping all the way up to number 13, a whopping 40 spots from the initial ranking released last week.

The Huskies were boosted by marks from twins Hana and Amanda Moll (photo courtesy UW Athletics) who both cleared 15-3.5 (4.66m) at last week's UW Invitational.

That mark currently stands as the number 2 mark in the NCAA behind Chloe Timburg of Rutgers' 15-5.75 (4.72m) set at the Scarlet Knight Open meet.

Amina Maatoug and Chloe Foerster also put up top-ten marks in the mile, with Duke transfer Maatoug running 4:28.39 for the seventh fastest time in NCAA Division I, and Foerster just behind at 4:28.90, ranked number eight.

Foerster also put up a top 20 mark in the 800 at 2:03.22, good for number 14, while Maatoug's 3000m time of 9:00.44 stands at number 18.

The nation's top five women's Division I teams are in order: Arkansas, Oregon, Texas Tech, Illinois and Georgia.

Other Big Ten teams in the national top 20 include number 14 Nebraska and number 25 USC.

On the men's side, the Huskies, who were ranked number 5 last week, moved one spot up to number 4 in this week's index.

Top ten marks from last week's UW Invitational set by the Dawgs include a 1:46.47 800 set by Cole Lindhorst, which is number 7 in NCAA D1.

The Huskies got a boost from Jami Schlueter's 5780 heptathlon score, which puts him at number 4, as well as from pole vaulter Scott Toney, who cleared 18-1.75 (5.53m), the number 10 mark in Division I.

Long jumper Prestin Artis' mark of 25-4.25 (7.74m) stands at number 14 in the D-I rankings.

The nation's top five teams are in order: Arkansas, Texas A&M, USC, Washington and Florida.

Other Big Ten teams in the national top 25 include number 9 Illinois, number 11 Penn State, number 13 Nebraska, and number 23 Iowa.


DIVISION II


In the latest USTFCCCA Division II National Indoor Track & Field Rating Index, the Western Washington women's team stands at number 12, up one spot from last week, while Seattle Pacific moved up one spot to number 18, and Central Washington dropped five places down to number 23.

The Vikings got a top-ten mark in the distance medley relay, where they set a school record 11:26.85 with the team of (from right to left/photo courtesy WWU Athletics) Sophie Wright, Bec Bennett, Emmy Kroontje, and Ila Davis at the UW Invitational.

Their 4 x 400 relay team ran 3:45.10 at the UW Invitational.

Seattle Pacific's Annika Esvelt ran the fifth fastest D2 time this season at the UW Invitational in the 3000, with a time of 9:24.80.

Central's top mark from the UW Invitational came from Carley Huber in the pentathlon, where she scored 3319 points, currently at number 27.

The nation's top five women's teams are in order: Minnesota State, Grand Valley State, Pittsburg State, Adams State, and Azusa Pacific.

The only other nationally ranked team from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference is number 19 Simon Fraser.

No Washington schools are in the national top 25 men's teams, with Western Washington the highest ranking team at number 33.

The nation's top five D2 men's teams are in order: Grand Valley State, Pittsburg State, Colorado School of Mines, West Texas A&M, and Wingate.

Alaska Anchorage at number 19 is the only GNAC school in the national top 25.
